You can’t keep a good beer down. At least, that’s what Lithia beer is saying. Ever since Lithia Beer was first brewed in West Bend, it shared a rich heritage with the city, Washington County and Wisconsin. West Bend Brewing Co. was established in 1848, the same year that Wisconsin became a state. When the doors closed in 1968, after a 120 year brewing tradition, the local beer was lost, but not forgotten.
A week in Philly for Philly Beer week simply isn’t enough.
Having just finished its 4th year of all things beer, it’s easy to see how Philly became the city that started the trend. There were so many events, I honestly didn’t know which to choose.
“She had to leave Los Angeles...” As I pulled back the maroon drapes to a tiny bar that we passed nearly three times, these were the words being sung.
Back in 2009, we entered the dusky, hipster, Brooklyn-ish type, unassuming bar on Sunset Blvd in Echo Park, after arriving too late to a beer festival. The majority of the folks there seemed just …cool. The ‘I’m not trying’ kind of cool. You know, Vincent Galo cool.
