A new brewery on the eastside of Seattle has produced a small batch of bourbon barrel aged beer, which was released December 9th.
Located in Redmond, Black Raven Brewing is an eight month old neighborhood brewery with a retail taproom. Truly a small batch, this taproom will be the only place to pick up the winner of the Winter Beer Festival’s people’s choice awards.
It didn’t take long for the festival crowd in Seattle to start buzzing about their latest seasonal release. “A little death”, or “La Petite Mort” was released on July 14th, 2009, Bastille day, the French national holiday. Balanced by flavors of mild fruit and hints of earthy tobacco, the Belgian inspired abbey brown ale was brewed with a Belgian Ardennes yeast strain that imparts an aroma of cloves and complex spice.
The main batch of La Petite Mort, released last July, produced a full batch, or about 10 barrels. There will only be three kegs of the bourbon barrel aged La Petite Mort, available Thursday, December 9th. The brewery is aiming to release this special barrel aged beer every December, following the full batch release.
Give me beer, or give me death….or in this case, a little of both.
